The 2017 Oscars Will Be Hosted by Jimmy Kimmel

Jimmy Kimmel will be taking a short break from his popular late night show to make fun of Hollywood’s elite. It has been recently confirmed that Kimmel will be the host of the 2017 Academy Awards. He is no stranger to hosting large awards shows. Kimmel hosted the primetime Emmy awards earlier in 2016. His performance on that show was widely praised by critics and people in the entertainment industry. It is not much of a surprise that Kimmel was tapped to host the Oscars. This is because his show and the Oscars are both on ABC. Kimmel has hosted a special show after the Oscars for many years on ABC.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences are notorious for not wanting anything offensive or controversial to happen at their ceremony. This is why it was a surprise when Chris Rock was announced as the host of the 2016 Oscars. However, Rock’s performance was clearly not the same as some of his previous appearances hosing awards shows for MTV. It was clear that the Academy told Rock to tread very carefully. This is thought to be the reason why the Academy has never asked Ricky Gervais to host after the blistering celebrity insults he delivered when he hosted the Golden Globes.

Kimmel is not known for being overly edgy. Therefore, he is viewed as being a very safe choice to host the show on February 26th. Kimmel has said that he wanted to host the Oscars. Now he will get his wish.
