‘Saturday Night Live’ takes on ‘The Bachelor’ and ‘This Is Us’

On March 10, Saturday Night Live put hilarious twists on two of television’s most popular series.

In the cold open, SNL superstar Kate McKinnon played special counsel Robert Mueller in a parody of the latest season finale of ABC’s “The Bachelor.” Instead of showing bachelor Arie Luyendyk Jr. being indecisive about whom he should propose to, the skit featured Mueller as a man who can’t decide whether to charge President Donald Trump with colluding with the Russians. His non-committal attitude breaks a contestant’s heart.

The contestant, played by Cecily Strong, is horrified to learn that an indictment isn’t imminent.

“You don’t have Trump on collusion?” she asks.

Mueller replies that he is just trying to be honest with her.

“Oh my God,” she cries. “I have to wait two more years for him to be out of office?”

“Honestly, probably six,” answers Mueller.

Meanwhile, guest host Sterling K. Brown spoofed his show, “This Is Us,” in another skit.

SNL’s version of the NBC hit was called “This Is U.S.” and featured Brown as Ben Carson, Aidy Bryant as Sarah Huckabee Sanders and Pete Davidson as Jared Kushner. All three characters were shown having a tough time with the scandals and investigations that are currently dogging the Trump administration.

A promo for the parody said, “You’ll be laughing through tears, except without the laughing.”

Bill Hader will be the guest host for next week’s SNL, which airs on March 17. The musical guest will be Arcade Fire.
