Many things in life require balance. You don’t want to be overweight, but you also don’t want to be underweight. You need iron, but too much iron is dangerous. You work overtime to pay off debt, but you still need to balance work and family time like Susan McGalla. Just as with all of these balances we face in life, another to add to the list is how long you stand at work.
Recently, a lot of attention has been given to those that work in an office and how sitting for long periods of time has negative long term health effects on the body. Many are now going as far as to have treadmill desks or standing desks so they can spend more time on their feet and off their bums. However, the opposite of sitting all day can be just as bad. Those that work at jobs where they are on their feet most of the day, such as fast food employees, are putting a lot of stress on their body that can result in fatigue and other long term problems.
