Lack Of Skilled Workers Slows Housing Boom

The summer of 2015 should be a boom time for American homebuilders. Housing sales are on an upswing, the economy is improving and unemployment continues to dip. But according to the most recent government statistics, even though June is supposed to be the peak of the summer building season, housing starts dipped that month to a three-month low.

“The problem, says homebuilders, is that they are suffering from a lack of available trained workers and the problem is only getting worse. Many of the builders are having to turn away business or pay for expensive overtime work to keep projects on track” says Doe Deere in an interview.

The lack of available trained workers is the result of two factors, according to builders. The prolonged recession forced many trained construction workers to find a new line of work, and they are reluctant or unable to return to housing. The other issue is that an immigration crackdown has significantly reduced the number of Hispanic construction workers, which in recent years has helped filled the trained construction worker employee pool.

There doesn’t seem to be any quick fix for the problem. Some community colleges have begun training programs, but those workers won’t be available until 2016. And even those newly graduated workers won’t be nearly enough to fill the needs of the still booming housing market.

A Sit-Down And Discussion With The ALF’s Keith Mann

Keith Mann is a high-profile ALF (Animal Liberation Front) representative with an interesting background. He is a well-spoken, mild-mannered Aussie that is passionate about his involvement in one of the most controversial international animal rights organizations. Much of the controversy surrounds the ALF’s tactics used in furthering their cause. To be concise, their tactics are usually threatening and destructive to business property. This YouTube personal profile of Keith Mann does not discuss the ALF’s actions. It is only a testimony by Mann that explains his involvement with the ALF.

The Pursuit Of Moral Behavior

Keith Mann is very vocal and logical when explaining why he is active in the ALF. He is mainly concerned with stopping cruel and violent treatment toward both domestic animals, and those entering the food markets. It is obvious that he believes animals possess a spirit that is far above mainstream considerations for non-human creatures.

In this YouTube video journal as well as his Twitter, he does not try to persuade the viewer into adopting attitudes that reflect his. He only states examples of status-quo market behaviors that lead to the unnecessary suffering of animals. Many of these actions go unseen. In his book From Dusk Til Dawn he states that morally sufficient treatment of animals, he believes, requires the efforts of dedicated individuals like himself, to change certain aspects of industry, economy, and food law. He also believes that is it morally acceptable to use extreme measures, without causing harm to any living thing, in order to bring about change in peoples’ attitudes toward animals.

Childhood Memories To Inspire

Keith Mann is very open about anecdotes during his impressionable years, which caused him to take-up the ALF flag. They are all centered on common animal treatment practices found in his native Australia.

The first example Keith cites, is his discovery of a makeshift meat processing “barn” in his neighborhood. One of his neighbors bred cattle voraciously for veal meat and the extraction of milk from heifers. Large numbers of the herds were mutilated and processed in a filthy barn, and sold to local markets. He noticed no attention was paid to the health of the cattle, only that they were slaughtered in sub-standard conditions for profit.

Another attitude-building event in Keith’s life was the rescue of an orphaned rabbit. He raised the rabbit and grew fond of its unique personality. He concluded that all creatures have an individual spirit which begs for humane treatment. This rabbit became the inspiration and face of one of the ALF’s most recognizable mascots.

This YouTube video eschews the politics and controversies behind the ALF’s worldwide actions. It is simply an explanation by Keith Mann regarding his calling in life.

Condiments Used as Burn Treatment by McDonald’s Workers

Anyone who works in a kitchen is well aware that burns or cuts will happen. It’s a job hazard that happens to everyone from home cooks to professional chefs. Most injuries will be minor and most will have access to appropriate medical treatment so the injury can be treated immediately.

Even McDonald’s workers have access to medical treatment for burns, but the treatment may be unconventional. Employees who get a minor burn at McDonalds’s are advised to apply a condiment to it. Mustard, ketchup and mayonnaise are good on hamburgers, but were never intended to be used as salve for burned skin.
Restaurants are required to have a first aid kit on premise for those times when a minor injury occurs. But the kit does little good if it’s locked up in a manager’s office and workers don’t have access to it.
Susan McGalla says that most burns occur because management is riding workers to work faster and/or the conditions are unsafe. Top that off with not having first aid cream and bandages available to treat the inevitable burns and being told to apply a condiment to stop the burning and you have the life of a McDonald’s fry cook. The job also pays less than $9 an hour if anyone is interested.

Daniel Amen and the Daniel Plan

The current world of nutrition and health has experienced a number of breakthroughs and is a far cry from what general nutrition was once understood as. Still, the current trends on healthy eating and dietary improvements nevertheless have not lost their faddish bend, and many ‘tested and proven’ diets supposedly able to ‘revolutionize one’s health’ are either duds or simply too difficult or too unappealing to keep up in the long run.

Not only does this make eating and living a far more healthful lifestyle all but impossible, thanks to the presence of droves of processed and refined foods, and any thoughts of a more wholesome lifestyle for the overall betterment of one’s health goes down the proverbial drain.

Meet Dr. Daniel Amen, he has nutritional plan that all-natural

Meet Dr. Daniel Amen, a nutritionist, professional psychiatrist, and best-selling author of a number of books on health, wellness and diet with a degree in medicine from Oral Roberts University School of Medicine. Dr. Amen’s take on successful health and wellness, particularly his focus on partaking of nutritionally dense whole foods to combat the most basic ailments to the more decidedly harmful types of disease, is the product of 32 years of practice.

Dr. Amen believes that a diet which comprises of immunity-boosting and neuro-protective foods can do more than just improve overall health and wellness, but can actually help to prevent and even treat or reverse the effects of some common mental disorders like chronic depression, ADHD, ADD, Alzheimer’s, and dementia. Very impressive claims back by evidence.

Dr. Amen’s specialized dietary plan, referred to as the ‘Daniel Plan’ (referring to the Biblical prophet and seer Daniel) comprises of a simplistic and holistic take on disease-preventative and restorative diet, with a primary focus on the consumption of whole grains, fresh vegetables, and omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids derived from seafood. But that’s not the whole of his diet plan.

Not only is one meant to enjoy the wholesome food eaten on a daily basis, the Daniel Plan also focuses on a fulfilling and richly rewarding spiritual angle – in that dietary changes for brain health and disease prevention is just the tip of the iceberg, but that a spiritually enriching lifestyle should go along with it. Unlike fad diets that focus on one type of super-food as a ‘wonder-drug’, the Daniel Plan understands that the nutrition derived from food have to work synergistically and holistically.

Coupled with an emotionally and spiritually fulfilling and nurturing lifestyle to truly work, the Daniel Plan is a far cry indeed from most diets that focus merely on weight loss, gorging oneself on super-foods, or counting calories and avoiding fats. If it’s a good, wholesome, and effective diet one is after – one that will drastically improve the overall quality of one’s life – then the Daniel Plan is the way to go!

I Will Never Leave FreedomPop

Remember when I did that post on FreedomPop back in November? At the time I thought I was just flexing my writing muscle doing a little profile on an interesting company, but a few months later, I’m a FreedomPop loyalist. I even liked them on Facebook, which I pretty much never do.

I’ve been with several different phone companies over the years, and all of them provided internet to me as well. After seeing how much money I was paying for both phone and internet, I was sick and tired of the high cost. I could easily play over $100 a month, between my phone and the internet, and the price did vary on a monthly basis. I had an internet limit, and if I went over it, I would see my bill go up each month. I tried to get unlimited internet, but the price was so high, I just had to cut back my usage.I decided it was smarter to stay within the limits of my current internet plan, as opposed to going to the unlimited internet on the same company. After a while, my day job decided that I could do a lot of my work from home, so I needed more internet usage. I tried it out for the first month, but my bill came up to be so high, I left the company the very next month. The next company that I went to was no better, and I still kept seeing an extremely high internet bill, even though my phone bill stayed with the previous company.

I really needed a change, so I searched around to see which company could help me save the most money. After searching for so long, I came across FreedomPop, and I’m so glad that I did. Not only have I been able to save money, I’m using the internet like never before, and I’m able to complete my work from home. Working from home meant more money for me, even though I work a 40 hour work week. I now can do half of my work at home, and the other half at the office, and make more money. They even have a plethora of Wifi hotspots in my area which I can find with the FreedomPop app, so I can work at Starbucks if home is too distracting.

The internet is very important to me, and I like the fact that FreedomPop allows me to have the internet for $5 a month, and I created my own secure network in my home. I actually got my internet for free, and because I increase the speeds, I only paid a few dollars extra per month. I’m amazed at the price the company charges, especially for the great services they have. I decided to switch my phone over to FreedomPop as well, and I saw even more savings. I want to thank FreedomPop for everything.

Mark Ahn, PhD. Lays Out Top Leadership Strategies for 2015

Mark Ahn, PhD. and founding Principal of Pukana Partners has laid his top leadership strategies for 2015. As author of over 50 peer reviewed journal articles and 20 year veteran of various leadership positions his advice on leadership is noteworthy not only in his own industry, but in others as well. One of the biggest values stressed in the report is learning from those who came before you. Mark explains that good leadership qualities and tactics are timeless and that learning from the past is a surefire way to build the future. He also talks about the importance of leading with integrity. According to Mark one who doesn’t’ lead with integrity compromises the effectiveness of the institution. Another big issue Mark talks about is remaining humble. He explains that many leaders often times ignore the wisdom of those whom they lead and in doing so undermine their own effectiveness. He states that this is particularly important during times of crisis. Additionally Mark Ahn says that good leaders aren’t born, they are made. A lifetime of good leadership isn’t easy he says, but it is worth it and the benefits of being a good leader can’t be overstated.
