Adult Swim Series “Rick And Morty” Is Making History

Recently the 45th annual Annie Awards took place Saturday, February 3rd, held at UCLA’s Royal Hall in Los Angeles, California. The ceremony honored many excellent films in the area of animation from 2017, particularly a new largely famous series from Adult Swim called Rick and Morty. The quirky, irreverent, animated comedy recently set the record for the highest ratings in Adult Swim history, and received top prize for best television writing and animated series.

The series, created by Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon, is a hilarious and somewhat dark chronicle of the adventures between timid grandson, Morty and Sociopathic, Genius, Grandad Rick. Throughout the series the time, and setting change frequently; traveling between time and space, fighting monsters, discovering bizarre new worlds. What’s not to love?

Adult Swim’s success with “Rick and Morty”, and massive fan following developed rapidly over a period of two years while writers were still desperately working towards writing a third season for their new fan base. Writer Dan Harmon mentioned in a quote from an article at Vice that “It wasn’t because we were like pumping out episodes. It happened while we were still taking too long on season 3. It just grew by itself.”

While it may have come as a surprise for some, the award received for the success of “Rick and Morty” was no surprise to others. All the congratulations’ were in line for the writers of “Rick and Morty” as they displayed they’re success at the Annie awards Saturday night.
