Donald Glover could get his own “Star Wars” film

Donald Glover’s already hot career is about to launch into space, according to IndieWire.

Glover plays a young Lando Calrissian in the new “Star Wars” spinoff, “Solo: A Star Wars Story.” Billy Dee Williams originated the character in “The Empire Strikes Back” and “The Return of the Jedi.”

According to Lucasfilm head Kathleen Kennedy, who was speaking to the media at the Cannes Film Festival, Glover’s version of Calrissian could soon get his own standalone film.

“We think that the next spinoff will be dedicated to Lando Calrissian,” Kennedy said. “Of course, there are still many stories to tell about Han and Chewbacca, but Lando will be next.”

In April, Glover revealed to Esquire that he signed a three-picture deal with Lucasfilm. The first picture in the deal was “Solo,” but it’s not clear if the remaining two will focus on Calrissian. Currently, there are plans for at least two more “Solo” films, so he could also appear in one of those to complete his contract.

So far, reviews for “Solo,” which stars Alden Ehrenreich as Han Solo, have been largely positive. However, even lukewarm reviews have pointed to Glover’s interpretation of Lando Calrissian as a highlight of the film. This positive buzz has led to hopes that the “Atlanta” star will get his own “Star Wars” film.

“Solo: A Star Wars Story” opens in theaters nationwide on May 25.
