Bendis to Write for 1,000th “Action Comics”

Brian Michael Bendis is going to have a big start as he moves to DC Comics, writing a backup story in the 1000th issue of Action Comics.

Bendis has been a mainstay at Marvel for years, with his most famous work on The Avengers, Spider-Man and X-Men. He was a founder of the Ultimate Universe, created important characters like Jessica Jones and Miles Morales and also took the likes of Luke Cage, Carol Danvers and Jessica Drew back into the limelight. However, last year he announced plans for an apparently amiable split from his Marvel roots, instead joining the other member of the Big Two for the first time.

And if you are going to go to DC, you might as well take on its most famous character, right? Action Comics is the longest running Superman title, and will be the first major superhero comic to reach 1,000 issues in April.

Dubbed Action Comics #1,000: 80 Years of Superman, this will be a major event: the issue will be 300 pages long and cost $29.99. It will include reprints of older stories as well as new work by not only Bendis but Dan Jurgens (the current Action Comics writer) and the team of Peter J. Tomasi and Patrick Gleason (who write Superman). Not a bad way to start a new job.

Action Comics #1,000: 80 Years of Superman comes out April 11, 2018.
